Learning through Nature Journaling: Homeschool Workshop
Families that homeschool or attend cyberschool are welcome to join us for a three part series on nature journaling. This set of events will guide students through different nature journaling prompts that encourage them to think like a scientist and sharpen their observation skills to learn more about the natural world. Between sessions, students will complete at least one journal entry a week. The last session will be a showcase of the work they completed in their journals. Families who register for this event are agreeing to attend for the dates of September 4th and October 23rd.
Friday, September 4th, 1-3pm: Students will receive journals, decorate the covers to make them their own, and then complete journaling prompts as well as share their entries with other students. Parents will be sent information on how to download a digital copy of How to Teach Nature Journaling by John Muir Laws and Emilie Lygren to help guide their students at home.
Friday, October 2nd, 1-3pm: This session is optional and will be another day with guided journaling prompts and sharing.
Friday, October 23rd, 1-3pm: Students will bring their journals and showcase the entries they completed at home. They will share their favorite entries and reflect on what they learned through journaling. The end time for this session will depend on how many students register, but we will try to keep it within 2 hours.
This program will not teach drawing technique. Students will be expected to complete prompts that involve a mix of both drawing and writing. There is not an age restriction for these sessions but children will need to be able to read and write to participate.
