Girl Scouts Love Birding

Girl Scouts are invited to join the park naturalist for a morning of birding. We will begin with a lesson on the use of binoculars and some basic bird ID, then take a 1-mile walk to test out our skills! Using our eyes and ears, we will look and listen for birds in both forest and lake habitats. **Registration is required--please register all scouts and accompanying adults using the "register" button above. All scouts must be accompanied by an adult.** A limited number of binoculars and monoculars will be available to borrow, or bring your own! Sturdy hiking boots or shoes are required. The hike will traverse both paved and unpaved trails, and we may encounter mud, roots, and rocks. Directions to Environmental Education Center from Park Office 1. From the park office parking lot, head northeast by turning right onto Route 563/ Mountain View Drive. 2. Proceed 0.8 miles to Harrisburg School Road and turn right. 3. Proceed 0.3 miles to the stop sign (entering the park) and turn right. 4. Proceed 0.2 miles to parking lot #12 and park. 5. Using either the main park roadway (follow the lights!) or the gravel path, walk through the wooded area 400 ft to the Environmental Education Center.
