Scouts Special: A Virtual Exploration of Making Real Maple Syrup
Description
Scouts of all ages can earn a special patch while virtually exploring how real maple syrup is made at Jennings Environmental Education Center! During this live virtual program on February 20, Jennings staff will engage scouts in the process of maple sugaring from start to finish, and through the ages. Participants may choose between two sessions at 10 am or 1 pm. The program will cover everything from the inner workings of the maple tree, and to how to ID, measure, and tap the tree; plus, viewers will see up close how maple syrup is collected and cooked in many ways, from the traditional to the modern. Participants will be able to interact, participate, and ask questions at various points during the program, but video and mic are not required. Registration is required to receive a link for the program, and scouts may register as individuals, or as groups. Participating in the virtual program is free, but to receive the special patch, there is a $2 fee per scout. Patches can be picked up at Jennings by families or leaders following the program from 8 am – 4 pm M-F, or on February 27 and 28 from 8 am – 4 pm. *Following the virtual program, scouts are invited to explore Jennings with their families, looking for signs of maple sugaring throughout the park using a special edition, limited time “Curiosity Quest” guide. Scouts and families can also visit the Nature Shop for all of their maple syrup and maple sugaring needs (pre-order forms and curbside pick-up available). **There is also an in-park self-guided, hands-on maple sugaring experience offered on Saturday, February 27. See this link for details.
