How Thanksgiving Came to Be
Description
Join us for a look into how Native Americans changed the lives of early settlers and helped to create the first Thanksgiving. We will discuss the life of the Northeastern Native Americans before and after colonists arrived, how they helped the Pilgrims survive their first winter, and how their lives were changed by the new colonists. We will also talk about what foods were eaten at the First Thanksgiving, and how the turkey came to be the symbol of the holiday we know today. This program is geared towards slightly older children, ages 7-12, but all ages are welcome. Registration is required but free - click on the green link to register. Space is limited and masks are required despite being outdoors. This is an outdoor activity, so please dress appropriately and watch the weather and our site for cancellations (we will email registrants if needed). Contact mmarker@pa.gov for any questions, concerns, or special requests.
