National Public Lands Day Volunteer Event
Description
Jennings Environmental Education Center is looking for volunteers to pitch in at the park in celebration of National Public Lands Day on Saturday, September 26. Volunteers will do trail work and other rehab projects for approximately 2 hours, and then receive a lunch and commemorative t-shirt for their efforts! Timeslots are available at 9, 10, and 11 am. Participants must be age 12 or older and must register for the program by contacting the Center at 724-794-6011 or registering online (green register button) no later than September 17. Due to COVID 19, the following plan is in place to allow for social distancing and safety: Groups/families should register all as one group at their chosen time slot by selecting the Group/family option. Individuals registering only themselves and wishing to work alone should select the “individual” option. At the individual/group’s designated time there will be no more than 24 registrants, but groups/individuals will be kept separate from others, being assigned a staff person and welcome area, as well as unique projects in various places around the park. We will be practicing social distancing!During the greeting and introduction to projects with Jennings’ staff, masks are required to be worn. Masks should also be worn when encountering others who are not with the individual/group.Individual bagged lunches will be provided, and groups can eat at socially distanced picnic tables throughout the park and in the pavilion or take their lunches home. Participants should bring their own water bottles and water, hand sanitizer, and work gloves if possible. All tools and sanitizing wipes will be provided. Restrooms with running water for handwashing will be open.National Public Lands Day is the nation's largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve and enhance the public lands American's enjoy. Last year over 113,000 volunteers nationwide built trails and bridges, planted trees and plants, and removed trash and invasive plants. Trail construction and rehabilitation will be the focus of the day at Jennings. Jennings is open from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM weekdays and on weekends as scheduled. The trails are open daily from sunrise to sunset for hiking and other environmentally related activities. If you need an accommodation to participate in park activities due to a disability, please contact the park you plan to visit. With at least three days notice, interpreters for people who are deaf or hard of hearing are available for educational programs.
