Speaker Series: Aaron Haines “Acoustic Survey Techniques for Bat Identification and Conservation”
Join biologist Aaron Haines from Millersville University as he talks about bat research along the Kittatinny Ridge. The Pennsylvania Wildlife Action Plan identifies 7 bats species of greatest conservation need. Researchers at Millersville University and Bat Conservation & Management Inc. conducted active monitoring for rare bat species along the Kittatinny Ridge. Bat surveys were conducted during the summer of 2018-19 using stationary remote acoustic recording devices at 5 natural areas along the Kittatinny Ridge (including Jacobsburg EE Center). A permanent publicly accessible remote acoustic bat kiosk has just been established at Hawk Mountain. Bat survey data for summer 2018-19 will be presented. Registration is required.
