Science & Stories: Family Edition
Join park staff for this scientific exploration of the forest during the annual Great Backyard Bird Count! In this session we invite families (children must be in Grade 1 or higher) to learn about the world of birds while helping with some real community science! To get our minds ready to explore we will start the session by reading “Bird Count" by Susan Edwards Richmond. Thanks to a generous grant from The Lawrence Foundation and Books in Homes, USA, families who register will be able to take home a copy of the book at the end of the program. We hope that by reading the story again at home you can talk about and reinforce some of the discoveries we make out in the forest. After the reading, we will practice using scientific tools like field guides and binoculars. Children will get the opportunity to practice using their new skills both at our bird feeder windows in the classroom, as well as out on the trails. **Please bring layers and dress for the weather as we will be outside in the winter cold for part of this program.** Program meets in McConnell Hall. Registration is required. Books and spaces are limited, so please register your entire group. This program may be canceled in the event of severe inclement weather. Cancellation emails will be sent out at least 1hr prior to the start of the event. Please check your email before you head over. Questions? Contact Rebekah at rsheeler@pa.gov

I will need accommodation in order to participate in this program. I recognize that if an ASL interpreter is needed, I will need to register 5 days or more in advance of the event so that the park can secure an interpreter for me.
I will notify Nolde Forest Environmental Education Center if my plans change.
