One Year on the Head of a Deer
Antlers have been marveled by mankind for millennia. This program will take a deeper look into Pennsylvania’s state mammal, the white-tailed deer, and focus on the phenomenon of antler formation and regeneration. February is the perfect time for this talk because it’s when whitetails restart their annual cycle of growing new antlers. We will discuss how this cycle perfectly coincides with a deer’s life history and how they use these freshly grown organs to help them better survive. After the talk we will do an indoor activity comparing different types of antlers. This program is best for teens and adults; although, children are welcome. Registration is required.
