Guest Speaker: The “chick-a-dee” call and hybridization
We see many chickadees visit our feeders at the center, namely the Black-Capped Chickadee and the Carolina Chickadee. Many people are not aware that Jacobsburg is within the “hybrid zone,” a geographic range where two species live and interbreed, producing hybrids. Guest speaker, Joan Spinelli, a doctoral student from Lehigh University will talk about her research on how the hybridization affects individual and flocking vocalizations. This is one you don’t want to miss out on! Registration is required.
